Artist Biography

Spindokter Ries has been spinning his way around the dance floors since the late 80's, where he banged out the acid house and new beat sound. In 1992 he and his right-hand man 'Jetlag J' put together the House of Freaks posse and started to organize parties, which they still do.

After twisting the beats up around obscure venues of Techno Central 'the City of Rotterdam' he got playing in the (in)famous club 'Parkzicht' and ended up mixing it up with the Cyb-X crew, until the Spindokter decided to join forces with Mononom, the legendary Dutch soundsystem.

stick them tunes on, drive that dance floor, make them shake that booty

During this period his beats metamorphicized to more underground acid-techno and it was in this time that he took his position as a tunes machine operator developing his own unique style of manipulating the controls. After years without the results down on plastic the Spindokter starts releasing his music for all to hear on the 'House of Freaks' label which he runs himself.

The Spindokter truly is an all-round 'Technics' wizard, electrifying dance floors, ripping them up wherever and whenever, as long as there is decks he is on it! Truly a turntable junkie he can be heard across many dance floors, so check him out when in your area........

25 May 06 - 19:01This WAS the CRACK!!

I was just cleaning my tunes for tomorrow when i thought of a tip you might find usefull. Obviously the cracks on your records are little dustpieces that landed on your vinyl once and got forced into the groove by the needle with every turn the record has made ever since. Now, when you decide to get rid off these little kill joys, make sure to ALWAYS TAKE TO DIRT OUT OF YOUR RECORDS BACKWARDS because you want to take the dirt out of the groove not push it further in...>

Night of the Nervous Drummer.mp3

About the nervous drummer project, this was a remix of the Bomb Dogs 101 Damnations on Audio Illussion. The idea was to get two copies of the record to play with. Just two decks and a mixer, no fx no computeredit. Make sure the eq's sound exactly alike (they may sound a little different 'cos of the needles) check the pitch. So you now have the two sound the same and on pitch. What you can do now is create a little delay, the two records are playing at the same bar and then you hold the record on the right for one count. So now the kick on the left record equals the snare on the right. By playing with the crossfader you can have either a kick or a snare at any given moment you like. You can nearly make a four-four with a drum and bass rhythm. Or take out the kicks completely...Then ofcourse you can delay one record for half a count or 1/third of a count to make the drummer even more nervous. Its a nice 'hands on' practise to learn about drumming structure. Obviously drum and bass or funky beats structures are more inviting than four-four structures but maybe you can find something interesting in any rhythm. Have fun...>Spindokter Ries

23 April 06 - 12:49Industrial Funk

Time flies when you're having fun and so we are already looking at the big Funk number three. Started off as a platform created by people on the look out for fresh beats to dance to, which is always a good cause. The posse got bigger so now there's more ears involved in the mission. Combining different interests and backgrounds in order to provide a good evening musically, visually and with any other contribution to create a full experience on the dancefloor. (more)

26 March 06 - 13:44Just a little gimmick

I am sure there’s software to click this possible instantly, and i know Technics were selling little chips to install in your 1200 for a dj unfriendly price, but here’s how we did it in the stone age:

To play your records backwards the cheap version!!

You find an ashtray, a roll of tape or a round piece of wood with a little hole in the middle.
Put this onto your deck, turn your needle upside down and put the weight all the way back making your needle wanna go up. You then put the record you wanna play upside down with the side you wanna play facing downwards. Put the needle onto the record from the downside and there you go.. your tune is playing backwards with your pitch still available.
I was sorted as i asked Jay to make me three different versions of wood. Perfect shape with different pin seizes... and i’m sure the guy who stole them of me is still having a lot of fun with them.. (he’d better be, anyway)

26 March 06 - 13:29THE HOUSE OF FREAKS

Me and Jay would always try to take the party to new levels. Bringing the right music at the right time in the right setting. Not scared of bringing the odd or unexpected. Like that time for our ten year anniversary of the House of Freaks. Location: a big old warehouse in Eindhoven, attendance between 800 and 1000 ravers, and Jay’s idea to start the evening with a salsa band.
And so we went to Rotterdam to check them out and make the financial and technikal arrangements. The only thing we forgot to tell them was that they had to play on a rave in a big old warehouse (more)

22 February 06 - 22:15And so it happened...

Born in 1970, Richard gets infected with the music virus at an early age. At age twelve he starts with drum lessons, a few years later his first mixes are born on a ghettoblaster (its amazing what you can do with just a pause button). Infected after practising on his cousins decks and records and after a few months of hard work, they are finally there...his own first 1200’s.

Ready for the world and with a bag full of tricks he enters the game soon to be confronted with something not to be learned at home or school: energy control or crowd control. This only comes after sets on the best and worst dancefloors in every club, party, coffeeshop, student- or gangstercafe. Its here where you learn to rock the floor no matter what. (more)
