Artist Biography

Serotonin is a multidisciplinar artist who operates mainly within the underground tekno scene and theatre [image maker/installations].

Serotonin the musician:

It all started when he got his hands on a MC303 Groovebox. It caused him to virtually lock himself up for about 9 months and keep playing 24/7. Since then he has gained more equipment and started releasing records and playing livesets. 'I came across the music of Aphex Twin at friends, and thought wow, where can I find more of this stuff?! I then got very involved in the underground tekno scene for about a year and a half. I still am now, but not in such a passionate way.'

It was through a friend he met in the underground tekno scene that he became acquainted with more broken beats, like Somatic Responses and other break stuff. 'I was trully surprised by the broken sound. I also started mixing a bit, which inspired me even more to actually produce the type of music that I was hearing'

A release on the Nasa label (Noise And Sound Artifacts) under the name of System Reset was the result, followed swiftly by a first liveset in the Bazart in Den Haag and a second release on KPR under the name Sonik Epitome. And then, of course, Nocturnal State. 'For me Nocturnal State is a networking platform, a way to launch me and my fellow musicians onto bigger and better things, and hopefully pull other musicians into the stream too, and vice versa...'

For the last few years he has been operating mainly within the Nocturnal State collective, and this has lead to his music slowly evolving to a more funky breakbeat style focused more on getting those feet moving...
