Artist Biography
Philosopher, deep thought controller, DJ, sculptor and artist... there certainly is more to reality than meets the normal eye with Just Q.
Manipulating the forms of the visual medium Just Q started his career as a sculptor and artist. It wasn't until several years after leaving the art academy that he had his first close encounter of the underground beats kind. This encounter would lead to an ongoing fascination of an audio nature. It was to be the start of a serious addiction to which there is no known cure and once hooked there is certainly no turning back.

Over the last years Just Q has been involved with many projects as well as a period working for the Rotterdam based art organization Worm. Just Q has been part of the organising of the Industrial Funk parties since the beginning. He continues to keep the beats fresh on many dancefloors as well as continuing his work of audio sculptor and tunes creator.

My background is in Arts, that is what I grew up with and made me who I am today.After my school years I was accepted at the Rotterdam Art academy.
Here I felt together with fellow students, at home and free.
Such a place can be very inspiring, which for me it was.
First I investigated flatness, then went on to spacious en finally the temporal.
But that particular art I didn't quite grasp instantly, music however I did.
Music as something to long for and representitive of the new and the unknown.
Personally I also experience music as an important vehicle for the memory.
In a way, music grows with you.
I experienced the emphasis on tradition in the arts as an unsurpassable problem.
The idea of freedom and self-determination was soon clouded by the ever present hierarchical structures.
But freedom alone does not mean a thing.
Dragging along my past, I cherish the weight.
Because without that weight I would only experience a void.
And then there was the was the first underground party.
Spiral tribe and MononoM in IJsselstein.
The place where I first experienced that music could be more.
How an apparent chaos offered me the opportunity to be marvelled.
How over time the tangible blended with the spiritual to create something new.
How sound took shape,shape became time and time took me by the arm.Sold!
So it was not freedom I was looking for, but something I could identify with.
This 'something' had an open structure, didn't judge and invited me.
And before i knew it, I was there right in the middle of it, still under these same conditions.
These temporary autonomous zones also brought with them something else.
The unexpected, the uncertain and the extraordinary.
Perhaps the reason to be part of that, was to be able to continue that feeling and remain witness of the talents surrounding me.

Deeper in the music, with art again as a possibility.
